Etch – The Perfect Preparation Partner

18th March 2024

Etching is a vital part of restorative dentistry and is used in many procedures. Its important to prepare the surface of the tooth using an acid etch gel to help restorative materials adhere and ensure a long-lasting result.

The types of dental treatment that require acid etching include; Composite Fillings, Dental Sealants, Orthodontic Bonding, Porcelain Veneers and Inlays and Onlays

The 3 main etching techniques that dentists use

  • Total etching – placing etch gel onto both the enamel and dentin. Usually used when a large amount of bonding is required.
  • Selective etching – etch gel is only applied to the enamel of the tooth. Typically used when there are concerns relating to sensitivity.
  • Self-etching – this single step combines both the etch gel and bonding materials into one treatment. Usually used for lighter restorations.

Bossklein Etching Gel consists of 37% thixotropic phosphoric acid gel, this helps dissolve minerals in the outer layers of the tooth leaving a rougher surface. This newly prepared surface allows restorations to effectively bond to the enamel or dentin and physically lock into place.

All packs include pre bent syringe tips

The bright green colour of Bossklein Etch gel ensures excellent visibility when being applied to the tooth. The optimum level of viscosity combined with the distinctive green colour enables accurate and unmistakable placement of the etch gel.

Bossklein Etch gel is perfect for anyone of the above etching techniques. The ideal consistency and texture help the etch gel stay in place on the tooth surface without collapsing.

Desensitising fluid is usually applied to the patient’s tooth between the use of etching gel and the bonding layer. This can help prevent discomfort in the patient post-surgery.
