Bossklein hand disinfection

17th June 2020

Effective hand hygiene is vitally important to prevent the spread of pathogens and recontamination of instruments. Bossklein Hand Disinfectant Gels and Rubs have been specifically designed to help combat infection with EN14476 testing which includes effectiveness against Coronavirus with a contact time of only 30 seconds.

  • Hand hygiene products should be used frequently – especially at the following stages:
  • Before and after each treatment session
  • Before and after the removal of PPE
  • Following the washing of dental instruments
  • Before contact with instruments that have been steam-sterilized (Whether or not these instruments are wrapped)
  • After cleaning or maintaining decontamination devices used on dental instruments
  • At the completion of decontamination work

The skin is often referred to as the largest and most visible organ of the body and serves as the main protective barrier against damage to internal organs. The skin barrier is located in the uppermost layer of the skin, protecting the underlying skin from the entry of irritants and allergens.

The UK Health and Safety Executive notes that healthcare workers may develop dermatitis more often than the general population. The most common causes are working with wet hands and contact with liquid soaps and cleaning materials. Many people have pre-existing skin conditions, which although not work related, may get worse with workplace exposure.

Disinfecting hands to prevent infection is extremely important, the Bossklein Gel and Rub hand disinfectants both contain humectants in order to maintain the integrity of the skin. The unique formulations are aroma and dye free to ensure maximum compatibility with minimum risks.

The potential dangers of bad hand disinfection practises are obvious; an increased infection risk from the unavoidable close contact between staff and patients.

The main reasons given as to why hand disinfection has not been performed include: lack of time and/or training, forgetfulness and lack of awareness. It is considered vital that staff members are fully compliant in the process of hand disinfection as this is considered the most important method of reducing cross contamination and therefore infection.

To avoid increased risks hand disinfection must become consistent, comprehensive and be repeated frequently and become second nature. Hands must be disinfected before and after contact with patients.
